Province-wide plan could keep Mississauga and Brampton students learning from home even longer

Mississauga and Brampton students could be learning from home even longer according to reports that the Ontario government is considering keeping students out of schools beyond the spring break.

Sources say the Premier Doug Ford and his cabinet are seriously considering the scenario of continuing online learning to keep students and teachers safe as COIVD-19 numbers across Ontario continue to rise and hospital visits soar.

Peel Region’s health department had ordered all schools closed early last week and the province made the decision to shut the system province-wide a few days later.

The news comes despite Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce telling parents yesterday that he wanted most schools across the province to open once the break ends. However, record breaking COVID cases across the province this past weekend and the signalling of local health departments that contract tracing at the school level is getting increasingly difficult to handle, may force the province to abandon plans to get students back into the classroom.

Premier Ford is expected to address the issue during a press conference scheduled for this afternoon.
