Province reports over 400 people in ICU for first time since June; almost 12,000 new COVID-19 cases

The province is reporting 11,959 new COVID-19 cases today (Jan. 9) and 21 more deaths, with the seven-day case average falling to 12,439.
There are 1,604 new cases in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon), 697 in Hamilton, 641 in Durham, 632 in Halton, and 417 in Niagara Region.
2,419 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 and 412 people are in ICU — the highest ICU count since last summer (June 2021).
“The seven-day rolling average of COVID-19 related patients in ICU is 322,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott.
28,457,813 vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario to date, including over 133,000 doses administered yesterday, Jan. 8.
91.1% of Ontarians 12+ have received one dose and 88.4% have received two doses.
