Province reports 5,833 new COVID-19 cases, 884 in Mississauga and Brampton

The province is reporting 5,833 new COVID-19 cases today, Jan. 23 (down 640 from yesterday) and 56 more deaths, with the seven-day case average falling to 6,940.

There are 884 new cases in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon), 351 in Hamilton, 270 in Halton, 237 in Durham, and 141 in Niagara Region.

3,797 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 604 people in ICU.

The province has hit a new vaccine milestone with 30,056,293 vaccine doses administered in Ontario, including over 79,000 doses administered yesterday, Jan. 22.

91.6% of Ontarians 12+ have received one dose and 88.9% have received two doses.

Additionally, over six million Ontario residents have received a booster dose, according to Health Minister Christine Elliott.

Ontario restaurants, gyms, theatres and retailers will reopen at 50 per cent capacity starting Jan. 31 as the province starts lifting COVID-19 restrictions over the next few weeks.
