Province reports 3,301 new COVID-19 cases, 154 people in ICU

The province is reporting 3,301 new COVID-19 cases today, Dec. 18 (up 177 from yesterday) and four more deaths, with the seven-day case average rising to 2,156.

There are 246 new cases in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon), 189 in Halton, 150 in Durham, 139 in Hamilton, and 81 in Niagara Region.

“Individuals who are not fully vaccinated represent 22.9% of Ontario’s total population and amount to 822 of Ontario’s 3,301 new reported cases. 141 cases are in individuals with an unknown vaccination status,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott.

154 people are in ICU due to COVID-19, of which 121 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 33 are fully vaccinated, Elliott reports.

25,174,953 vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario to date, with 90.4% of Ontarians 12+ having received one dose and 87.8% having received two doses.

On Friday, the province announced it will reinstate social gathering limits and indoor capacity limits in Ontario in response to a rise in Omicron variant cases.
