The Province has announced it is investing more than $3 million in supports for victims of human trafficking in Peel Region.

The initiative will involve the creation of an integrated services hub, which will provide on-site health care, trauma counselling, addictions support, legal aid, education, and employment services to young victims and survivors of human trafficking in the Region.

Additionally, as part of Ontario’s Anti-Human Trafficking Community Supports Fund, the Province is investing $96 million in community-based services and Indigenous-led supports for victims and survivors of human trafficking over the next five years.

In total, the Province has announced it will be funding 27 new projects through the Anti-Human Trafficking Community Supports and Indigenous-led Initiatives, and funds will be used to provide a more comprehensive network of supports across Ontario.

The majority of reported instances of human trafficking in Canada occur in Ontario, and, as a result, the Province’s Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy represents the largest total investment in dedicated anti-human trafficking supports and services in Canada.

“This investment in Peel Region further underlines our government’s commitment to end human trafficking and reinforces our pledge to build awareness, protect victims, provide support for survivors and hold offenders accountable,” Solicitor General Sylvia Jones said in a news release.

“These valuable community resources, coupled with our recently passed Combating Human Trafficking Act, will help prevent and respond to the threat of human trafficking and support our efforts to fight this heinous crime,” she continued.
