Province giving nearly $1.6 million to regional business incubators in Oshawa and Whitby

Durham Region’s two business incubators received a financial leg up Monday to the tune of nearly $1.6 million in provincial funding.
A total of $1,587,274 is being provided to the Spark Centre in Oshawa and to Business Advisory Centre Durham in Whitby to help local businesses access entrepreneurial supports.
“Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of Ontario’s economy, and it’s crucial that they have the resources and support they need to thrive” said Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy, who is also the MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge. “By providing guidance and resources to help them start and grow their businesses, we’re helping to create jobs and build a stronger, more resilient economy for everyone.”
Regional small business centres provide the tools and guidance entrepreneurs need to start and grow their business, including training and mentorship, market intelligence, and connections to resources and potential funding partners. Programming and services are offered to clients who are typically in early-stage or growing innovation, and technology companies with the potential to expand and succeed on a global scale.
“Ontario entrepreneurs are resourceful innovators who frequently have great ideas but need guidance in bringing them to fruition,” noted Whitby MPP Lorne Coe.
Ontario’s investment will support the distinct regional priorities and challenges of of local small business enterprise centres and regional innovation centres.
