Protesters shut down Main Street in Hamilton to send a message to the Hamilton Police Service (HPS).

During the HPS board meeting today (July 23), protestors in support of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement painted “Defund The Police” in big block letters on Main in front of Hamilton City Hall.

Reports have said HPS is investigating the incident—HPS has reportedly described the message as graffiti and obstructing the roadway, but they are not commenting on possible charges at this time.

Some protestors have shared images of the finished paint job via social media, and a video depicting protesters painting the street began making the rounds on social media, before it was quickly taken down.
