A virtual information session is being held for residents in Oakville, Burlington, Milton or Halton Hills who are thinking about running for office.

People who are considering running for the role of mayor, regional chair, or local or regional councillor in October are invited to register for the session taking place Monday, Apr. 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Provided by several municipal governments, the session called So You Want to Run for Council will be led by Fred Dean, municipal coach and former municipal solicitor. The session will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of various positions, including duties, scope, and commitments.

The session will not cover information about nomination, campaigning or other election processes. Those details will be available through each of the area municipalities closer to the start of nomination in May.

Family members of potential candidates are also encouraged to attend to learn about impact on family life.

To be a candidate, the individual must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age, and a resident of the municipality in which they intend to run for Council
