Vendors, contractors and service providers working at Region of Peel facilities in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon have an additional three weeks to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Earlier this month, the Region issued a deadline of Dec. 17 for all current vendors working for the Region “to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a legally valid exemption.”

But a Peel Region spokesperson has confirmed that deadline has been extended to Jan. 7 “to allow some more time and be responsive to our vendors.”

The spokesperson said vendors were notified of the extension on Dec. 16 through email and the vaccination requirement details have been updated on the Peel Region website.

Vendors will need to complete a form confirming their staff have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and those who fail to confirm “may not be permitted to have contractor personnel attend any Peel worksites,” the Region said in a statement.

The vaccination policy will “help ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone at our Regional worksites,” said Peel Region CAO Janice Baker.

The Region already has proof of COVID-19 vaccination requirements for all Regional employees, as well as for volunteers at any hockey arenas, fitness centres and other indoor municipal fitness facilities.

PPH says 91.6 per cent of Peel residents over 12 years old have had at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 88.2 per cent have received two doses.

Some 86.4 per cent of people over 5 years old have received at least one vaccine shot, and 81.2 per cent have received two doses.

There were more than 250 new COVID-19 cases in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon on Monday as the province recorded more than 3,000 new cases across Ontario.
