Prince of Wales Stakes comes to Fort Erie Racetrack tomorrow

Even though the official Prince of Wales title in Britain has now shifted from a father to his son, the same-named second leg in the Canadian thoroughbred racing’s triple crown will be off and running at the Fort Erie Racetrack tomorrow (September 13) afternoon.

At the The Prince of Wales Stakes, Queen’s Plate (the first leg) winner Moira is sidelined so the betting numbers have now shifted to that race’s third finisher Sir for Sure, being ridden by ridden by jockey Declan Carroll, at heavy favourite 7-to-5 odds.

The $400,000 race is the second-to-last race on Tuesday’s 11-race program with a post time of about 5:40 p.m.

Here are the odds in the 87th running of the Prince of Wales Stakes, Fort Erie Racetrack’s Signature event, featuring the finest Canadian-bred three-year-old thoroughbreds, running on the track’s dirt surface.

Since 1959, The Prince of Wales Stakes has been Fort Erie’s premier race of the year, the centrepiece between the Queen’s Plate and The Breeders’ Stakes, both of which are run at Woodbine.

That (1959) was also the year the race became the second jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown of Racing.
