One man faces charges after a Pride flag was damaged at a Niagara Region school.
The damage was reported to the flag at a school in Thorold on June 17, Niagara Regional Police said. Thorold is located between St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
Police said a man went to the school and purposefully caused damage to the Pride flag in the hate-related incident.
Chandler Robinson, 42, of Thorold, was charged with mischief under $5,000.
This is the second hate incident related to Pride flags recently. Multiple poles flying Pride flags at Perth County schools were cut down over the weekend.
The Niagara Regional Police Service Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit is assisting with the investigation into this incident. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at (905) 688-4111, option 3, extension 1009757.
Members of the community who wish to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards to people who contact the program with information that leads to an arrest.
