More than 1,600 homes and businesses are without power in Brampton amid a heatwave that’s hit the city and much of southern Ontario.
Alectra said the blackout happened around 4:30 p.m. in communities north of Highway 407 near Hurontario Street in Brampton. Some 1,605 customers are being impacted in the area of Steeles Avenue and the 407, Mclaughlin Road and Kennedy Road South.

Alectra says the cause of the blackout is an “undetermined problem” under investigation.
A repair crew has been dispatched, but Alectra hasn’t said when service is expected to return.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Brampton expected to persist through Tuesday night, with a possible extension into Wednesday.
