More than 900 homes and businesses in central Hamilton could be without power until fairly late on Wednesday (July 7).

Alectra Utilities is reporting an outage in an area stretching east from Emerald Street North to Sherman Avenue North, and north from Barton Street East to the Burlington Street East area. Crews are on the scene, and the expected time of resumption is 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Some 919 homes and businesses are affected.

During an outage, all traffic stops where the lights are non-operational are to be treated as a four-way stop.

UPDATE: As of 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, about 200 of the customers had their power back. Alectra says an “overhead distribution issue” has slowed work.

UPDATE: A 2 a.m. ETR for full resumption remains in effect, but now only 281 customers are waiting to get their power back.

On Tuesday, there was an outage in the Barton Street East and John Street North area that affected 281 Alectra customers.
