UPDATE: Power was full restored at 11:29 p.m. on March 17.

Close to 5,000 businesses and homes in Brampton were affected by a power outage in the south part of the city on Thursday night (March 17).

It was the second outage in three days where thousands of Alectra Utilities customers have been without power.

The utility did not initially provide an ETR (expected time of resumption) for the outage, which was in the Dixie and Orenda roads area. Crews have been dispatched. The official tally of affected customers was 4,918.

Service was restored shortly before 11:30 p.m.. That was actually ahead of Alectra’s estimate of 12 a.m. to 2 a.m.

During a power outage, any intersections where the traffic lights are not working are to be treated as four-way stops.

On Tuesday, there was an outage in Brampton that affected 4,124 customers. It lasted about two-and-a-half hours, from 5 till 7:30 p.m.

Alectra’s progress at restoring power may be tracked at brampton.alectrautilities.com/outages.
