Scattered thunderstorms on Monday (Aug 29) call for winds up to 110 km/h and the possibility of hail for residents in Mississauga and Brampton.

Environment and Climate Change Canada expects fairly severe thunderstorms to sweep through the region tomorrow, bringing the risk for localized flooding, tossed loose objects, and scattered lightening strikes.

Organized areas of thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and into the evening.

These thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with wind gusts between 90 and 110 km/h and the possibility of toonie size hail.

Environment Canada says, “While the risk is less than previously forecast, an isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out.”

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees as well as uproot trees. Large hail can damage property, vehicles, and crops.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas and ponding of water on roads is also possible.  Power outages may occur as well as scattered lightening strikes.

The remainder of the week stays wet until Thursday (Sept 1). Tuesday has a 70 per cent chance of showers with a high of 27 degrees Celsius. Wednesday is expected to see a high of 24.

And then Thursday will have a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 21 degrees Celsius.

The rain earlier in the week is followed up by a cold front, bringing the low down to 9 degrees Celsius overnight on Thursday.
