UPDATE: Peel Regional Police say that as of shortly after 1 p.m., some residents have been let back into the building. They add that a Mississauga fire inspector remains on the scene in efforts to determine the cause of the incident.
An apartment building in west Mississauga has been evacuated as police and firefighters investigate reports of a possible fire at the building this morning.
Peel Regional Police say smoke was spotted coming from the top of the building, located at Forestwood Drive and Erindale Station Road a couple of blocks west of Mavis Road, on Tuesday morning just after 10:30 a.m.
However, there are no signs of an active fire, police added, in a post to social media.
Still, Mississauga firefighters have evacuated residents from the building while they check the premises.
Police say there are no injuries.
The emergency response has prompted the temporary closure of several roads in the area. Police urge motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
More details to follow as additional information becomes available.
