Maintenance will close a portion of the Red Hill Valley Parkway (RHVP) in Hamilton for at least four weeks.

The work will begin Tuesday (Sept. 20), closing the northbound merging lane on the RHVP from Greenhill Ave. to King St. East to complete stormwater management maintenance at a pond along the parkway.

The northbound Greenhill on-ramp to the RHVP will also be closed on weekdays for the project’s duration but will reopen each weekend to traffic.

The scope of work includes collecting and hauling sediment settled at the bottom of the stormwater management pond to a nearby waste facility.

“By removing the sand, dirt, silt, and other pollutants that run off the parkway into the stormwater management pond, crews can improve the quality of the stormwater discharged to the natural environment and the pond’s capacity to accept run-off,” according to an official media release from the City of Hamilton.

Motorists travelling northbound on the RHVP will likely experience delays during rush hour. A detour route will be in place around the Greenhill on-ramp closure.

Bus routes are not expected to be impacted.
