Niagara Health has been forced to temporarily close its urgent care centre in Port Colborne for part of this weekend because of a staff shortage.

The location will close between 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

In a statement issued by Niagara Health, the move is being made to address ongoing staffing issues.

“Despite exhaustive efforts, including seeking assistance from our partners outside of Niagara, we have been unable to safely staff the Port Colborne UCC during this time period,” the statement by the health system reads. The urgent care centre is located on Sugarloaf St.

Niagara Health says it has explored all options and the temporary closure is being done as a last resort measure.

During the closure patients are being told to visit primary care locations or walk-in clinics or to visit hospitals in nearby communities such as Fort Erie.

The staffing issues continue to plaque healthcare in Niagara and that steps are being taken to redeploy staff and to avoid future closures.
