A Port Colborne man who was released from custody back in May 2020 under the condition that he not own a cellphone was busted by Niagara Police yesterday (September 22) for precisely that – having a cellphone.

He was spotted by a resident who recognized him near the Canal in Port Colborne on September 19, snapping photos with his phone.

Yesterday, the police found him at home and quickly discovered the cellphone in his pocket.

Joseph Franklin Crawford, 37, was arrested for failing to comply with a release order.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension 1023200.
