We’ve seen a number of Mississauga restaurants close down recently, but this one definitely hits us hard.

The Pie Commission, a Toronto-based brand that offered an array of savoury and sweet pies in The Food District at Square One, has closed permanently.

Sources indicate it was struggling to make a profit once the pandemic hit, leading to a tenancy dispute between the take-out spot and its landlord Oxford Properties (co-owner of Square One).

“As you know, the pandemic has not been kind to shopping malls. Our store in The Food District at Square One felt it first hand,” said The Pie Commission, which closed its doors for the last time on Thursday, March 31.

“Our amazing team put their heart and soul into this place but sometimes it doesn’t work out as intended.”

The popular take-out spot was known for serving a variety of gourmet pies including Chicken Mushroom Pot Pie, Vegetarian, Butter Chicken, and Pulled Pork. It also provided catering and sold pies wholesale to customers and suppliers.

Those who are craving a pie can still get it at the The Pie Commission’s other location at 927 The Queensway in Etobicoke.

Are you sad to see The Pie Commission go?
