Buybuy BABY in Oakville is closing its doors for good.

The popular American-owned company announced its Canadian operations are going out of business and that 11 stores will be closing for good, including the Oakville Place location on 240 Leighland Ave.

An employee at the Oakville location told inhalton.com that a date for when it will close its doors has yet to be announced.

“Thank you to all of our loyal fans and customers,” the company said on its website. “Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to close our Canada stores.

“Please visit your local store and shop our storewide clearance sale.”

All items in the popular baby store are on sale with a 20 per cent discount, while customers can save up to 40 per cent on bedding items.

The American company, which also operates 54 Bed Bath & Beyond stores north of the border, announced its Canadian operations are going out of business in early February just days after it quickly raised cash to hold off a U.S. bankruptcy.

According to the filing, the company employed nearly 400 full time employees and over 1,000 part-time workers.

Buybuy BABY Canada had assets in worth $52.7 million US and liabilities of about $86.9 million US.

The baby store sold a wide variety of items, including clothing, toys, strollers, car seats, nursery furniture and decor.
