A popular McDonald’s sandwich is returning to the menu after a 10-year hiatus.

The McRib sandwich will be back at participating McDonald’s restaurants for a limited time starting on Jan. 30, according to a press release from McDonald’s.

The last time the McRib was available on Canadian menus was 2014.

The McRib combines a boneless pork patty dipped in barbecue sauce, topped with slivered onions and pickles served on a toasted homestyle bun.

“It’s no surprise this sandwich is an icon, with its uniquely delicious balance of sweet, tangy and savoury flavours,” the release states.

The McRib made its debut in the United States in 1981, as a limited-time item, developed by McDonald’s first executive chef, René Arend, a native of Luxembourg who also invented Chicken McNuggets in 1979, according to a 2010 article in Maxim magazine.

Fans of the iconic sandwich have asked for its return, according to McDonalds.

“In the last year alone, our team received thousands of inquiries on social media from very passionate Canadian McRib fans asking to bring it back here,” said Alyssa Buetikofer, vice president and chief marketing officer at McDonald’s Canada.

“The McRib is truly a fan favourite. It appeals to guests of all ages—from loyal followers who have patiently waited a decade for its return, to our newer fans who have only heard the legend.”

The release doesn’t say how long the sandwich will remain on the menu.
