Back by popular demand, a large section of Locke St. South will be closed to motor vehicles every Saturday so local businesses can take to the streets.

Seven Saturdays on Locke is being rebranded for 2021 as Saturdays Un-Locked.

From July 17 to Sept. 11, Locke Street between Hunter and Herkimer will be closed every Saturday.

“This year you can enjoy your favourite patio AND support local merchants with on-street sales,” wrote Locke Street Shops on Instagram. “This ISN’T a festival, we’re opening up the streets safely and we can’t want to see you!”

With the road closed, businesses on Locke Street are able to utilize the extra space to provide services that range from food and drink to arts and crafts.

Prior to the pandemic, the Locke Street Festival was held every September. But with COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the festival that typically brought thousands of people to the street over the course of a day has been reimagined as a way to safely support Locke businesses.
