Dog park enthusiasts and their furry buddies should take note of this upcoming temporary closure of a popular Hamilton park.

Cathedral Dog Park, located at 2-40 Carling St. and one of the largest dog parks in Hamilton’s downtown core, will close for “infrastructure construction” from May 22 until June 26.

City of Hamilton officials say the planned improvements aim to enhance the park’s water facilities, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable water supply for both visitors and their four-legged friends.

Here are some alternative dog parks to explore during this time:

  • Central Park: Located just a short distance away from Cathedral Dog Park, Central Park offers designated off-leash areas and well-maintained walking paths
  • Bayfront Park: Situated near the waterfront, Bayfront Park boasts beautiful views and a spacious off-leash area for dogs to socialize. The park’s serene atmosphere and waterfront access make it a popular choice among dog owners seeking an alternative park experience, officials say
  • Hill Street Dog Park: Another convenient option for dog owners in the area, Hill Street Dog Park offers a fenced-in area where dogs can play and interact safely. This well-maintained park provides ample space for dogs to exercise and engage in off-leash activities
