The Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA) is welcoming people back to its premises as it gears up for its 51st annual Art Auction.

On Monday (March 21), the DVSA announced that in the lead up to the auction, which will be held virtually, art lovers can view the pieces up for grabs in person at the school.

“It’s how the artwork is meant to be viewed,” said Keir Overton, DVSA’s Director of Marketing, Events and Digital Strategy in a press release.

“While last year’s all online event was a huge success for us, we know bidders missed the experience of making a personal connection with the artwork and being able to see it on display throughout the school.”

More than 1,200 works of art in all styles and all price ranges will be available for viewing and bidding, including Featured Artworks by leading regional artists such as E. Robert Ross, Eric Ranveau, Julia Veenstra, Emma Smith, Peter Fischer, Laurie Wonfor Nolan, Jody Joseph and Susan Outlaw among others.

Pieces up for auction will be available for viewing and bidding online beginning April 4 and in-person viewing begins at DVSA on April 6.

The auction is the DVSA’s biggest fundraiser, the funds from which are split between the artists and the school.

“We’ve had to continually adapt and pivot to make this event come together the past two years,” said Claire Loughheed, Executive Director of Dundas Valley School of Art.

“And while the art auction makes a significant contribution to the school’s sustainability, providing financial support for hundreds of regional artists is also a tremendously important part of our mandate.”

This year’s event will be particularly poignant as organizers look to honour the contributions and life of Hamilton artist and DVSA instructor, Catherine Gibbon, who passed away in 2021.

Online bidding for Featured Artworks closes at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. Online bidding on all other auction artwork closes in three blocks (8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.) on Saturday, April 9.
