Popular cafe closing down for good in Mississauga

COVID-19 has robbed us of many things, including some of our favourite places to relax and unwind over a meal or coffee.

On Dec. 1, The Cold Pressery, a popular Mississauga cafe that serves plant-based drinks and meals, announced that the pandemic has forced it to close its doors for good.

That said, the company said it will be taking time to “refocus its efforts for the future.”

The Cold Pressery will be closing down on Dec. 20, 2020.

This year has been challenging in so many ways. I was extremely fortunate to have an immense amount of support from the community and from my team. We did everything we could to push through but it’s also important to know when to quit,” Jenny Le, the owner of The Cold Pressery, told insauga.com.

The challenges ahead are not going to get easier any time soon. Luckily, I was presented with an opportunity that will allow me to take a step back and refocus my efforts. This is not the end of The Cold Pressery, we’ll definitely come back when the time is right.”

Fortunately for people who live and work in the Square One area, another restaurant is going to be moving into the Pressery’s Sherwoodtowne Blvd. location.

Le says that Bao Sandwich Bar, which currently operates a location in Waterloo, will be moving in shortly.

As for now, I’m very excited to welcome another unique restaurant to our community. It’s special to me in so many ways—aside from preserving some of Cold Pressery’s interior design, they’re bringing a more diverse dining option to Mississauga and lastly, it’s owned by my best friend so I know the space is in good hands,” Le says.

Bao Sandwich Bar serves a number of bao (house-made steamed bun) and baguette sandwiches, including chicken katsu, Seoul beef, spicy pork, pork belly, duck, fried pollock, avocado and sriracha tofu. The restaurant also serves fries, spring rolls, poutine, wings, salad and more.

An official opening date has not yet been announced.

It’s a tough time for small businesses, my wish is that they’ll receive the same amount of love and support as we did,” Le says.
