A popular Burlington eatery will sadly be shutting down for good, its owners recently announced.

Chop & Wop Ristorante, which combined the flavours of Italian and Portuguese cuisine, is permanently closing after being in business for about a year.

“It is with a heavy heart that Gio and I announce the permanent closing of Chop & Wop,” said co-owner Marco Rodrigues in a statement to customers. “We have been so grateful for all the support and love we have received over our very short but amazing year in operation.”

Rodrigues says they met many amazing people and made new friends through the restaurant, which he originally opened to live out his great grandmother’s dream.

He didn’t mention whether the closure was related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in many other businesses having to close down.

We do not regret taking this chance and have loved every minute of it in the ups and downs.  I do sit here wishing I was not writing a goodbye note so I won’t say goodbye.  I will say until we see you again,” Rodrigues concluded.
