Popular Brampton raised musician shot dead in India

A Brampton rapper and musician who originally comes from India is shot dead in his home country.

Sidhu Moose Wala was traveling in a vehicle in the Mansa district in Punjab when he was shot and killed by two vehicles coming towards him said Asian News International (ANI).

ANI quotes a video of Viresh Kumar Bhawra, the Director General of Police in Punjab speaking about the incident in a press conference.

VK Bhawra says police believe there is gang involvement in the murder.

Wala was traveling with two other individuals when over 30 rounds were released upon the vehicle.

Police say Wala left behind two of his four government appointed security officials and chose not to ride in his bullet-proof vehicle.

Wala’s death comes just one day after the Punjab Government decided to withdraw some security personnel for over 400 VIP individuals.

Reports say the security personnel were removed for deployment elsewhere in preparation for the anniversary of Operation Bluestar, a military operation carried out by Indian security forces in June 1984.

Wala was born in 1993 in Moose Wala in the Mansa district of Punjab, India. He studied at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana, gaining his education in electrical engineering before moving to Brampton in 2016.

Wala was influenced by Tupac Shakur and become known for his music in 2017 with hit song “So High”, a gangster rap collaboration with Byg Byrd.

In April 2022, Moose Wala released his debut Ep “No Name” which reached number 73 on Billboard Top Canadian Albums.
