A popular American quick-service restaurant has debuted a brand new look for the first time in Canada–and it’s very blue.
Today, Wendy’s, a well-known burger restaurant that operates over 470 restaurants across Canada, announced that it opened the country’s first Future Fresh restaurant–something it says marks “a significant milestone in the brand’s continued growth and investment across Canada.”
In a news release, Wendy’s Canada said the new design fuses modern architecture, digital innovation and “bold brand expression” to bring diners something new.

The first of its kind in Canada, the rejuvenated restaurant is located in the Toronto suburb of North York (865 York Mills Road) and is owned and operated by franchisees Keyur Patel and Ankur Arora.
The new restaurant features Future Fresh design, which includes a distinctive blue exterior, a modern interior, enhanced technology (such as digital signage) and 40 interior seats.
In a news release, the restaurant brand said it made sense to roll out the new look in Canada, as the country is Wendy’s largest international market and the company is bullish on long-term success in Canada.
“The opening of Canada’s first Future Fresh restaurant is an exciting milestone for Wendy’s and a reflection of our confidence in the future of the brand across Canada,” John Mulvihill, managing director, Wendy’s Canada, said in a statement.
“As Wendy’s largest international market, Canada continues to play a significant role in our growth story, and Future Fresh represents the next evolution of how we bring the Wendy’s experience to life for customers. By combining modern restaurant design, enhanced digital experiences and the fresh, craveable food Canadians know and love, we’re creating a restaurant experience that feels distinctly Wendy’s while positioning the brand for continued growth for years to come.”
The first Wendy’s location was opened by well-known founder Dave Thomas in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio and quick become known for its unique square-shaped burger patties and signature Frosty dessert. According to Wendy’s website, the brand was the first to introduce the modern-day drive-through, creating a pick-up window in 1970.
Now, the restaurant’s menu includes cheeseburgers, chicken burgers (including the popular spicy chicken burger), wraps, fries and salads. Wendy’s also boasts a full breakfast menu with biscuit, croissant and wrap sandwiches, French toast sticks, seasoned potatoes and a breakfast poutine.
The first Canadian restaurant opened in Hamilton in September 1975.
