A recent online poll suggests former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie faces a difficult road ahead as she attempts to return to the city’s top job.

The poll asked readers, “Will you vote for Bonnie Crombie for Mississauga mayor?” and generated 2,290 votes.

The results showed a strong majority of respondents are not planning to support Crombie’s return to city hall:

No: 79.7% (1,825 votes)
Yes: 20.3% (465 votes)

The poll comes just days after Crombie officially registered as a candidate in Mississauga’s municipal election, which will take place on Oct. 26. Crombie served as mayor from 2014 until early 2024 before stepping down to become leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. She later led the Liberals into the 2025 provincial election before resigning as party leader in January 2026.

Now seeking a return to municipal politics, Crombie has said she has unfinished business in Mississauga and recently stated she has “something to prove” following her time in provincial politics. She has also emphasized that Mississauga remains her home and that she is committed to serving the city if elected.

Crombie enters a race that already includes incumbent Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who won the 2024 byelection following Crombie’s departure from City Hall. City councillors Alvin Tedjo and Dipika Damerla have also entered the race, setting up what is expected to be one of the most closely watched municipal elections in the city’s history.

During her decade as mayor, Crombie became one of Mississauga’s most recognizable political figures, winning multiple elections and helping guide the city through a period of significant growth. Her supporters point to her experience and track record, while critics have questioned her decision to leave City Hall for provincial politics and argue the city should move in a different direction.

While the poll is not scientific and reflects only the views of readers who chose to participate, the results offer an early snapshot of public sentiment surrounding Crombie’s attempted comeback.

The findings suggest many respondents remain unconvinced, with nearly four out of five saying they would not support her return to the mayor’s office.

With more than three months remaining before voters head to the polls, candidates still have plenty of time to make their case. However, if the poll is any indication, Crombie will have significant work to do to win back support as she seeks to reclaim the office she once held for nearly a decade.
