Tickets will be available this week for the swearing-in ceremony and inaugural meeting of Burlington’s mayor and council at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre.

The event will take place Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown venue more known for hosting musicians and comedians than politicians.

Members of the community are invited to attend the meeting to watch Burlington’s mayor and members of council be sworn in for the 2022-2026 term. A livestream of the event will also be available online.

“I encourage members of the community to join in the public reception and council meeting where your newly elected council will be officially sworn into office,” said Kevin Arjoon, city clerk.

“The event will include the swearing in of members of council, an inaugural address from the mayor-elect and local entertainment throughout.”

There will be musical entertainment and refreshments starting at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

“I’ve been honoured to lead a council team that has delivered on your priorities, and we did so while supporting our residents and businesses through an unprecedented global pandemic and two-year state of emergency,” said Mayor-elect Marianne Meed Ward.

“Your Burlington council is looking forward to continuing to work hard on your behalf. It takes all of us working together – council, staff, community and government partners – to get things done. I invite the community to join in the celebration as we usher in a new term of council.”

There is no cost to attend but residents are encouraged to get their ticket for admission in advance from the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Tickets will be available starting Friday, Nov. 4, at noon.

To get your free ticket, contact the BPAC box office in-person, Tuesday to Saturday, between noon and 4 p.m.; by phone at 905-681-6000; or online.

The four-year term of office for the elected representatives is Nov. 15, 2022, to Nov. 14, 2026.
