The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a 35-year-old man in St. Catharines.

The police watchdog says that around 12:40 am on May 24, Niagara Regional Police were called to investigate a domestic dispute at a home in the Cushman Rd. and Welland Ave. area.

The SIU says officers found the man in “medical distress” on the front lawn when they arrived.

Paramedics were called and the man was transported to hospital.

He was pronounced dead at 1:55 am.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of law enforcement officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
