If you or someone you know is planning to buy an iPhone online, you should be extra cautious to avoid getting scammed.

Recently, multiple incidents have been reported in Mississauga and Brampton regarding sales of a fake iPhone X on several online classified websites.

Police say the fraudulent item looks similar enough to a real iPhone X to be considered authentic at first, but is typically discovered to be a fake when the buyer attempts to use the phone.

“Investigators are aware of individuals that have not reported these types of transactions due to embarrassment,” police say.

“Peel Regional Police would like to encourage the community to report incidents such as these so that investigators can locate the person(s) responsible.”

To avoid being scammed when buying products online, residents are advised to avoid deals that seem too good to be true, avoid purchasing from unverified/unknown sources, and consider using PRP’s buy and and sell exchange zones.
