Arashdeep Singh of Brampton faces criminal charges.

Two victims described by Toronto police as “elderly” were conned out of cash and paid for unnecessary home repairs by unscrupulous contractors.

A Brampton man has since been charged.

Police say that in July 2024, the victims were approached by several men who presented themselves as legitimate contractors and City of Toronto workers.

“The victims paid for ‘roof repairs, mandatory backyard cleanups and emergency home repairs,’” police said. “The repairs were never completed or required.”

Earlier this week, Arashdeep Singh, 23, of Brampton, was arrested in connection with the incidents. He is charged with:

  • Three counts of fraud over $5,000
  • Three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
  • Two counts of laundering the proceeds of crime in Canada
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000

Investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Police allege Singh operated companies under the names Xcellent Custom Homes Ltd., Friendly Masonry Ltd., and 17051450 Canada Inc.

Police are warning residents about unsolicited contractors going door to door, especially those using high-pressure tactics, demanding payment in cash or bank draft, or requesting large down payments.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.
