Niagara Police have laid charges against a Niagara Falls man for his suspected role in a hit-and-run that killed an 84-year-old cyclist in Niagara-on-the-Lake on July 13.

Since that time, the police have reached out numerous times to both residents and auto repair shops, looking for the driver of the GMC Sierra pickup truck that struck Nestor Chemerika on his mountain bike, sending him into a ditch in the East-West Line and Concession 2 Rd. area. He later died of his injuries in the hospital.

Yesterday (Oct. 3), police charged Richard Alan Moore, 37, of Niagara Falls with failing to stop after an accident causing death and careless driving causing death.

He was held in custody for a video bail hearing today (Oct. 4) at the courthouse in St. Catharines.

However, after thanking the public for helping them to identify the suspect, police are still looking for any witnesses to the hit-and-run.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009089.
