Niagara Police are on the hunt for a young suspect they believe shattered the windshield of a train as they was traveling through Grimsby.

Police were called to the scene of the westbound CN tracks located near the Oakes Road North crossing in Grimsby, regarding damage to a CN train on September 17, just before 8 pm.

Once there, they met with the conductor, who said the train was moving about 65 km/h when an “unknown object” hit and shattered the windshield. The conductor sustained some minor injuries.

Police are now on the hunt for a “person of interest” seen at the site just prior to the windshield becoming damaged.

He is described as a white, male, 16 to 20 years old, wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and white running shoes.

Police say he was seen running from the scene holding with what appeared to be a flashlight emitting from a cellphone.

Police returned to the scene the next day during daylight and discovered golf balls in the area of the train tracks.  It’s unknown whether the damage was caused by a golf ball but police are asking residents in the area of Oakes Road North to review their CCTV footage for any relevant information.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option #3, extension #1009023.
