Police say public ‘vigilance’ helped crack case of Burlington vehicle break-ins

Police say tips from the public have helped solve a case where vehicles in Burlington neighbourhoods were broken into. An Oakville resident has since been charged.

According to Halton Regional Police, at approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning (May 11) they were alerted by residents about a man checking door handles of vehicles in the area of Lakeshore Rd. and Brant St.

When officers arrived on the scene they quickly placed a person under arrested.

Following a further investigation, police allege the same man was responsible for breaking into cars on Queensway Dr. on May 3.

“The HRPS (Halton Regional Police Service) would like to thank area residents for their vigilance and assistance in this investigation, and would like to encourage the public to continue to notify police of suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhoods,” reads a statement released by police today.

Brian McNeil, 41, of Oakville has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Breaching a release order
  • Breach of probation

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
