A report of some young males in a vehicle with a gun near a plaza in Oakville on Friday afternoon proved to be a false alarm.

Halton Regional Police responded to a call from concerned resident just after 12 p.m. that there were young males in the area of Maple Grove Plaza driving around with a gun in the vehicle.

Police found the males with a gun, but it wasn’t a real one.

“Police attended and located the vehicle and confirmed the gun to be a BB gun,” Halton police’s Ryan Anderson told inhalton.com.

There were no reports of injuries.

An air gun, no matter how real it appears, is legal to purchase in Canada provided it meets certain requirements. Most retailers require a customer to be 18 years old to buy one, but there is no legal age requirement for purchasing them.
