It was a purrfect rescue from Ontario Provincial Police.

The sounds of a meowing caught a police officer by surprise while at a traffic stop on an Ontario highway.

The incident began after a Cambridge OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 7 at Highway 8 in Kitchener, the OPP said in a tweet this morning (Sept. 1).

The officer heard a sound coming from the ditch, police said.

“A few minutes later, as the officer was speaking with the driver, a kitten emerged from the grass and sat at the officer’s feet,” the OPP said.

The driver was cautioned.

And thankfully, police rescued the kitten who looked quite cozy snuggling up to an officer.

People couldn’t help but react to the short post on Twitter.

“Look at that face. So happy it was rescued,” one person wrote.

Some wondered what would happen to the kitten.

“I hope the officers is go to keep the kitten,” one person said.

It is not known how the kitten came to be on the side of the highway and some speculated it was abandoned.

“Hopefully wasn’t thrown out the window by some unscrupulous driver… but good job rescuing it.”

In an updated post, OPP showed a video of the rescue (below) said the kitten was getting checked by a veterinarian.
