Niagara Police are hunting for a suspect after a Niagara-on-the-Lake woman reported she was sexually assaulted at a park in Thorold yesterday (September 21).

After meeting with the victim in her 20s, who didn’t need medical treatment, police says she had been hiking in the Mel Swart Lake Gibson Conservation Park (DeCew Road-Abbey Drive) in Thorold at 5:30 pm.

The victim said she was taking a break on a park bench when an unknown man sat down and struck up a conversation. Before long, she said he was sexually assaulting her.

Fortunately for the victim, an adult woman and her daughter, who were using the trail, happened to walk up, scaring off the suspect.

They assisted the victim to her car and she drove home to call the police. She told the police the man was a stranger to her.

The suspect is described as a white male, tanned, freckles on cheeks, approximately 30 to 40 years old with light brown short hair and a moustache, brown eyes, approximately 5-foot-11, weighing 200 to 220 pounds with a broad muscular build.

He was wearing a charcoal grey hooded sweatshirt with an unknown white logo over the left side chest area, white drawstrings in hood and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009450.
