Durham Regional Police have reported a rise in car thefts from Oshawa to Pickering. They’ve released some advice to motorists to keep their vehicle safe.

“While there is no guaranteed prevention against vehicle theft,” police said, “you can take the following precautions;”

  • Make sure your car is always locked and keep the keys with you.
  • park in a well-lit environment or a locked garage
  • never leave your car running unattended
  • invest in a steering wheel lock
  • never keep spare keys in the car or outside the house
  • place the key fob in a faraday RF blocker bag
  • don’t leave keys near the door or windows
  • keep keys near the bed, if not near a window, to activate the alarm
