Police patrols inside mall aim to reduce holiday thefts at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga

Police will be walking the aisles alongside Christmas shoppers this month as they beef up their presence at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga in an effort to reduce retail thefts during the holiday season.

Peel Regional Police say that, throughout December, officers will be deployed to Ontario’s largest shopping centre to conduct foot patrols and respond to emergency calls for service while making themselves available to the mall’s Security and Loss Prevention officers in the event that arrests are made.

“Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau have collaborated with Square One Shopping Centre and Loss Prevention Officials on an initiative to reduce retail theft this holiday season,” Peel police said in a news release on Wednesday.

The goal, police add, is to reduce retail theft while providing a more timely response to employees and Loss Prevention Officers.
