Police on scene of overnight shooting incident in west Hamilton

Hamilton Police said they will have an increased presence in a west Hamilton neighbourhood Tuesday (Nov. 23) as they investigate a shooting incident.

Police said they were called to the area of Broadway Avenue between Ward Avenue and Sussex Street after a citizen called 9-1-1 to report the possible sound of gunshots.

Upon arrival at the scene, shortly after 11:30 p.m., officers immediately secured the area and searched for anyone involved but police said they had fled the scene.

Through continued investigation, investigators confirmed a shooting incident had occurred and that shots were fired into an unoccupied parked vehicle.

A man, police said, was seen fleeing the area on foot and provided the following suspect description:

  • Male, white
  • Early 30’s
  • Dark hair
  • Wearing dark coloured clothing

The investigation has been taken over by Division One Criminal Investigation Branch and detectives are appealing to area residents and businesses in the area to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity and to contact police.
