Youth shot, 9 schools under hold-and-secure in Brampton

Peel Regional Police are on scene for a shooting investigation in Brampton today (May 26).

At 11:24 a.m., police received reports of a young victim suffering from a possible gunshot wound in the area of Grenoble Boulevard and Central Park Drive.

There’s no suspect description at this time.

Early reports indicate schools in the area are under partial lockdown as a precaution.

UPDATE (12:15 p.m.): The following nine schools are currently under hold-and-secure:

  • Grenoble Public School
  • Greenbriar Middle School
  • Goldcrest Public School
  • Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School
  • St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School
  • St. Jean Brebeuf Elementary School
  • Judith Nyman Secondary School
  • Chinguacousy Secondary School
  • Williams Parkway Sr. Public School

UPDATE: (1:24 p.m.): Police confirmed that the victim, a 17-year-old girl, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting which took place in the shopping plaza at Grenoble Boulevard and Central Park Drive.

Officers believe they have identified a male suspect in this shooting and are continuing to search for him. Police say they’re currently unsure if the suspect was equipped with a real or an imitation firearm.

There’s no word at this time on when the hold-and-secures for all schools are expected to be lifted.

UPDATE (2:22 p.m.): Police have issued a correction to their previous statement, stating that the victim’s age is in fact 17, not 13.
