A Peel police officer was shot at during a call north of Pearson Airport in Mississauga early Sunday morning.

Officers were conducting a police investigation in the area of Torbram Road and Lucknow Drive when a male pulled out a firearm and shot at an officer, a Peel Regional Police spokesperson told INsauga.com.

The officer was not struck or injured, police said.

Police said officers subsequently arrested the male, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not clear why police were called to the area, or what happened before shots were fired.

At approximately 4:40 a.m., police said Torbram Road was closed north of Derry Road East to Drew Road. Police warned that the road closure would be lengthy.

Photos from the scene show police tape around a business at 7130 Torbram Rd.
