Police Officer Charged with Sexual Assault in Peel Region

An officer with Peel Regional Police has been charged with sexual assault following an incident that took place in Peel Region.

The accused officer was off-duty at the time of the incident, the SIU says.
The SIU was reportedly contacted by Peel Police on November 28, 2017 regarding a complaint of a sexual nature against the officer.
As a result of the investigation, 48-year-old PRP Inspector Daniel Johnstone has been charged with one count of sexual assault.
Johnstone is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 9, 2018.
In consideration of fair trial interests, the SIU has stated that it will make no further comment regarding this investigation.
