Police looking for man who impersonated being a cop in Niagara Falls

Niagara Police are searching for a man who impersonated being an officer yesterday (March 6) in Niagara Falls.

A driver was on Drummond Rd. near Prospect St. at 6:20 pm when a black vehicle with white doors switched on red and blue emergency lighting behind him. Assuming he was being followed by a police officer, he duly pulled over.

The driver said the man who approached his vehicle gave the impression he was a police officer.

When he became suspicious and asked for his name and badge number, the suspect returned to his vehicle and simply took off.

The suspect is described as a man with white/tan skin, 20 to 30 years old, 5-foot-11 with a small patch of facial hair under his bottom lip, He was wearing a black toque with a Canadian flag on it, a dark jacket with a name tag and a duty belt with handcuffs and a baton.

Area residents and businesses with CCTV and motorists with an operational dash camera who were in that area at that time are being asked to review their footage and report any relevant information.  As well, police want to speak with anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed this traffic stop.
