Police investigating after pick-up truck kills Hamilton pedestrian in Thorold

Niagara Police are trying to piece together the events surrounding a deadly collision between a pick-up truck and a pedestrian in Thorold yesterday (March 1).

Police were called to the scene at Highway 20 between Princess St. and Egerter Rd. at 10:35 pm, where they found the pedestrian in critical condition.

Despite the efforts of the Niagara EMS and the Thorold Fire Department, the pedestrian, a man in his 30s from Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck allegedly involved was a Ford F150 pickup truck being driven by a 24-year-old man from Welland.

Hwy. 20 was closed for the investigation last night but has since reopened.  At this point, the investigation is being conducted by NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit and assisted by the Forensic Services Unit, the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Office of the Coroner.

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation and thus far, no charges have been laid.  Anyone who may have information about this incident is being asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009569.
