A 22-year-old Brampton man is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police recovered three stolen vehicles during an early morning investigation west of Ottawa.
The arrest was made June 16 after officers with the Lanark County OPP received information from a vehicle security monitoring company indicating that two stolen vehicles from the Peel Region were travelling eastbound on Highway 7.
Just after 2 a.m., officers located the two vehicles along with a third vehicle travelling near Carleton Place. Police said all three vehicles were being driven without licence plates.
Officers were able to stop one of the vehicles and arrest the driver. The other two vehicles failed to stop and continued on before being found abandoned a short time later in Beckwith Township.
Police launched a search involving an OPP canine unit, Emergency Response Team members and the Ottawa Police Service. The suspects who fled from the two abandoned vehicles were not located.
As a result of the investigation, 22-year-old Harbalab Shergill of Brampton has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 16.
Police have not released details regarding the ownership of the stolen vehicles or whether additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
