Police hunting federal offender known to frequent Brampton, parts of the GTA

A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for a federal offender who police say is known to frequent Brampton and some surrounding areas.

Stephen Smart, 48, is currently serving a five-year sentence for criminal harassment, uttering threats to cause death/harm, breach of long-term supervision order, extortion, and failing to comply with probation order.

Provincial police say he has breached statutory release, in which an offender is released from prison but kept under supervision.

Smart is known to frequent the Kingston, Toronto, Brampton, Owen Sound, Kitchener, North Bay Areas.

He’s described as an Indigenous male, 6-foot-2 (188 centimetres), 262 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a long, grey goatee.

OPP’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad is seeking information regarding Smart’s whereabouts.
